Abernethy Bridge

Improvements will strengthen the Abernethy Bridge to withstand a major earthquake and accommodate a future third travel lane. Once complete, the bridge will be the first earthquake-ready highway structure across the Willamette River in the Portland metropolitan region.

Construct new bridge foundations, widen each side. Slide one direction. Existing lanes will remain open to traffic during this time.

Slide the other direction. Existing lanes will remain open to traffic during this time.

Complete remaining bridge widening toward the center to join the bridges together and remove existing supports. Existing travel lanes will remain open to traffic.
