Rebuilding and upgrading the I-205 bridges and overcrossings, adding a third lane in both directions on I-205 and improving the OR 43 and OR 99E interchanges will result in traffic impacts. Two lanes of traffic on I-205 in each direction will be maintained during weekday business hours. Travelers can expect lane closures and some full closures with signed detours. Local roads will also experience lane closures and other traffic restrictions during the project.
More information will be provided as the project nears construction in 2022. Sign up to receive email updates about travel impacts.
Removing part of the rock slope on the northbound side of I-205 is necessary to create space for the additional northbound travel lane in each direction on I-205 between the Sunset Avenue overcrossing and the OR 43 interchange.
Travelers on I-205 and area residents can expect temporary increased noise and vibrations during rock cut and removal. Residents in the area will receive notice before any rock cut or removal, and project emails, website, and nearby traveler information signs will alert drivers on I-5 and I-205 to the schedule and impacts.
While crews are actively working on the rock cut, they will follow safety processes which will include short-term traffic impacts to I-205 traffic and nearby local streets.
Construction will cause some increases in noise, but we will work to keep it at a minimum. Sources of noise will include rock removal and general construction. The project will obtain nighttime noise variances from project area jurisdictions. Before construction begins, a nighttime noise hotline will be shared.
